70+ Short Travel Quotes To Help Fuel Your Wanderlust

Travel quotes – love them or hate them? We’re not masively into quotes, but there is something about these short travel quotes that have truly inspired us over the years to travel, even more so now that we have children.

We say that traveling the world as a family is the greatest gift you can give your children (along with some awesome travel gifts for kids)! It’s so incredibly important for children’s mental health and well-being as well as being the best education.

70+ Short Travel Quotes

These short travel quotes may be small but they are mighty. Many of them are among the most famous quotes of all time, not just the most famous travel quotes of all time. We love that these shorts quotes about travel are easy to remember – and they will stick with you.

These quotes will inspire you to travel, but they will also bring back memories of your favourite travels. And at times when we can’t travel (apart from travel virtually), they can give us hope.

Some were uttered by the most inspiring people in the world who have very wise words for us and we hope you will find them as inspiring as us.

The most famous short travel quotes

These are the travel quotes that you will most likely have heard before, but may not be sure who first uttered the words.

“I haven’t been everywhere, but it’s on my list.”
– Susan Sontag

“The journey not the arrival matters.”
– T.S. Eliot

“Not all those who wander are lost.”
– J.R.R. Tolkien

– Dalai Lama

How could we not include a travel quote from one of the most inspirational people in the world, the Dalai Lama?

Once a year, go somewhere you have never been before

“Collect Moments, Not Things.”
– Aarti Khurana

This is a mantra that we live by. It took a while to realise that we don’t need the biggest house or the fastest car and it took a life-changing event to find out.

“If we were meant to stay in one place, we’d have roots instead of feet.”
– Rachel Wolchin

“To move, to breathe, to fly, to float, to gain all while you give. To roam the roads of lands remote, to travel is to live.”
– Hans Christian Andersen

To travel is to live

“ “A journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step.”
– Lao Tzu

“The world is a book and those who do not travel, read only one page.”
– Saint Augustine

“Not all classrooms have four walls.”
– Unknown

This is one of our favourite short travel quotes relating to travel with children. We could not agree more with the sentiment. Our kids have learned so much on our travels. That’s not to say they don’t love books, but there is something about seeing something with your own eyes for it to stick in your mind forever.

Not all classrooms have four walls

Shakespeare quotes about travel

We can thank William Shakespeare for so many of today’s sayings, but he also had a thing or two to say about travel. Here are our favourite Shakespeare travel quotes.

“The world’s mine oyster, which I with sword will open.”
– The Merry Wives of Windsor

It is said that the popular English idiom ‘The world is your oyster‘ comes from this Shakespeare quote, but interestingly, the original quote had a slightly different meaning.

“There is a world elsewhere.”
– Coriolanus

“Be patient, for the world is broad and wide.”
– Romeo and Juliet

“Travelers never did lie, though fools at home condemn them.”
– The Tempest

Travelers never did lie, though fools at home condemn them

Short travel quotes about living life

These next short quotes about travel signify the same sentiment for me. Life is about living. Don’t wait until you have earned enough money to live it.

We totally get this. We adore Africa having spent three months travelling overland through nine countries. We were also inspired by Hemingway and named our first son after him!
