Background on Go2Africa
Go2Africa is a luxury African tour operator specializing in tailor-made African itineraries since 1998. Based in Cape Town, they partner with over 3,000 reputable safari lodges, hotels, and travel providers throughout 15 African countries to create seamless experiences for their clients.
You can see which destinations they cover here.
Their advisors, all African-born and raised, have been picked because of their country expertise. Some of them have lived in the destinations they specialise in. Others have spent a significant amount of time getting to know the ins and outs of that country from numerous research trips.
Many of their advisors have been recognised by Condé Nast for their expertise and it is their expertise that is worth paying for. It is hugely important when travelling with kids to Africa to have this level of guidance. You can read more about Go2Africa’s top travel specialists here.
In addition to their top level travel experts, the company as a whole has won numerous awards with the most recent being voted Africa’s Leading Luxury Tour Operator by the World Travel Awards.
Why we chose Go2Africa for our family safari to Kenya
Our family loves adventure, and while we typically plan our own travels, we know that independent travel in many African countries can be complex.
We’ve previously backpacked through 10 eastern and southern African countries using only public transport and in that time we got to experience the many difficulties posed by independent travel in Africa.
We know very well Africa well but even we benefit from working with a company like Go2Africa.
Just a note here – we always book our own South Africa family holidays because we know it so well. South Africa is a great country for families because it is easy to navigate. There are some great family-friendly South African safaris, in part because they are malaria free.
We have the perfect 2 week family holiday in South Africa itinerary to give you some ideas on where you can travel in that time. And make sure to check all of our South Africa with kids content. Having said this, there is no harm in speaking to a South African expert if it is your first time travelling to South Africa.
Because of our knowledge of how the rest of Africa worked (or didn’t work!), we knew that we needed help with the logistics. As it turned out, Go2Africa were also able to negotiate better rates with their partners than we were able to if booking ourselves.
We also had wanted to do and see more than was physically possible. This is a problem we have with a lot of our travels and we end up exhausted so having a voice of reason was very helpful!
I know that other travel companies can create amazing itineraries but the fact that Go2Africa employees live in Africa is important to us.
Africa means so much more to them than any other UK or US based African travel agent which is why they set up these Positive Impact projects.
It is great to know that some of the money we spend booking with Go2Africa goes towards these amazing projects which help to conserve and protect Africa’s wildlife and surrounding communities.
And finally, once you are off on your dream safari, they offer 24/7 support which gives peace of mind.
So in summary, the reasons we chose Go2Africa are:
- their country specific expertise
- their commitment to conservation
- their 24/7 support
- their accreditation by the South Africa Tourism Services Association (like ABTA or ASTA)
Our booking experience with Go2Africa
Booking with Go2Africa was easy. The process started with a simple enquiry form on their website, followed by a consultation call where we discussed:
- Our budget
- Preferred travel dates
- Trip duration
- Family requirements including child-friendly accommodations
They provided great recommendations tailored to our needs and even suggested cost-saving options like ground transfers instead of flights.
We made a few tweaks and when we were happy with the final itinerary, we paid by credit card. This gave us extra protection but we appreciated that Go2Africa offers supplier default insurance and is accredited by the South Africa Tourism Services Association.
So, like I said, the planning and booking process was straightforward. And here’s what we booked.
Our 9-Day Kenyan itinerary
Go2Africa handled everything, from accommodations to transportation, ensuring a smooth journey.
We booked our own international flights because we often use airmiles. They can book international flights for you but you are probably better off doing this yourself.
Day 1-3: Arrived in Nairobi, transferred to Ololo Safari Lodge in Nairobi National Park. We loved how close it was to the airport—within a couple of hours of landing, we were already on safari! This was perfect for easing into the trip and adjusting after a long flight. And wow – check out Ololo Safari Lodge!
Day 3-5: Moved to Hemingways in Nairobi, where we visited the Giraffe Centre – a must-do with kids! Our children were particularly fascinated by the experience of feeding giraffes, making this a highlight of our Nairobi stay. I just wish we had had time to visit the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust. Tip – Do make sure you read An African Love Story before you go to Kenya!
Day 5-9: Transferred to Naboisho Camp in the Masai Mara by ground (a scenic 5-hour drive). The camp was incredibly family-friendly, and because it was low season, we had private game drives, making the experience extra special. The kids loved spotting lions, elephants, and zebras up close. Our guide was fantastic at keeping them engaged with fun animal facts and interactive experiences.
Day 9: Transferred to the airport, but not before planting a tree at Naboisho Camp—a meaningful way to give back. This was a wonderful activity for the kids, helping them understand conservation efforts in Africa.
What we loved about Go2Africa
Seamless Planning: From start to finish, everything was arranged for us, so we didn’t have to stress about logistics.
Expert Advice: Their specialists understood our needs as a family and tailored an itinerary that worked perfectly for us.
Financial Protection: Knowing we were covered by insurance and booking through a reputable company gave us peace of mind.
24/7 Support: Although we didn’t need to contact them during our trip, it was reassuring to know they were available if we needed help.
