TOG24 Packable Jacket Review: We Love Them And So Will You!

How many times have you heard the adage – there’s no such thing as bad weather, only unsuitable clothing? Too many times probably if you’re in the UK.

To say that the UK weather can be quite mixed is an understatement. It is not unheard of to have four seasons in a day and summer showers are to be expected.

So it should be no surprise that there is a large market in the UK for lightweight packable waterproof jackets. This means that you are faced with a somewhat overwhelming choice.

What do we know about packable waterproof jackets?

Over the years we have done all sorts of travel. Backpacking through Africa, India and South East Asia. Roadtrips in Europe. Hiking in Canada. Citybreaks in luxury hotels. Camping and vanlife adventures…

Although we like to mix up the type of travel we do (which is where the Flashpacking name came from), one thing remains constant.

We always pack our packable lightweight waterproof jackets. We have tried many different brands over the last 20 years.

We came to the conclusion a couple of years ago that the TOG24 packaway lightweight waterproof jackets are the best we have had.

TOG24 packable jacket features

Fully waterproof (fully taped seams, 5K waterproof with durable water repellent finish).
Breathable & windproof – so important in the warmer summer months as you can quickly sweat if the jacket is not breathable – even in the rain.
Lightweight – They pack down really small into their matching bag so it really doesn’t matter if it doesn’t rain as they don’t take up much space at all. Take them anyway just in case. Our kids carry their own in their travel backpacks.
2 zipped pockets – I love this feature in particular because so many of the cheaper waterproof packaway jackets don’t have this.
Shaped adjustable hood and hem (pull on toggle).

Machine washable.
They come in lots of different colours so there is something for everyone.

So here is our TOG24 craven jacket review…

The quality of the TOG24 packable jackets is excellent from the zips to the quality of the toggles. We have had (slightly) cheaper waterproof jackets from Mountain Warehouse and Regatta but they were more flimsy. TOG24 waterproof packable jackets are much better quality

They come neatly packaged in matching drawstring bags which we love.

We also love that they have a kids range too. If you were that way inclined, you could have matching jackets for the family.

As well as being lightweight, they are flexible and don’t hinder the kids in their epic adventures.

We love their khaki ones for our kids. The boys were convinced that they were completely camouflaged during a game of hide and seek.

Our TOG24 packable jackets are so much more important to us these days because we do a lot more camping with the kids in our VW campervan.

Space is really an issue but these TOG24 waterproof packable jackets are ideal for van life. They are one of our absolute essential items for the campervan.

We have had them for 2 years now and haven’t had to re-waterproof them yet. They have not let us down.

We’ve been so grateful to have them on so many occasions. Once, visiting Suffolk with kids, we set off on a boat trip in the beautiful sunshine and 30 minutes later, it started pouring with rain.

They simply are the best packable rain jackets.
