Ever since we went to visit the Blenheim Palace Christmas lights in Oxfordshire, we have been enchanted by Christmas light trails.

We’ve been to a few winter light displays around the country now and can report that there are some beautiful Christmas lights in Norfolk too.

Visiting a Christmas light trail can be a really lovely way to get into the festive mood. It is one of our top recommendations if you’re looking for family-friendly things to do at Christmas.

As well as visiting one of these exciting Christmas light trails in Norfolk this year, you can also wander around some of the towns and villages and check out their light displays for free.

Thursford

This festive light event in Norfolk, Enchanted Journey of Light, is one of the best winter light trails in the country.

Address: Thursford Collection, Thursford, Fakenham, Norfolk, NR21 0AS.
Dates: 19th November to 28th December.
Tickets: £20.00 per person, Under 2 – FREE.

They also have a Christmas spectacular and one of the best Santa’s Grottos around.

Sandringham

Luminate Sandringham

The winter light trail at Sandringham winds through the illuminated trees. Enjoy special light effects and music as you go.

At the end of the enchanting trail, you can toast marshmallows and enjoy festive food in the courtyard.

Dates: 11th November to 18th December.

Blickling Hall

Garden of Lights

Christmas at Blickling is a magical affair. This Christmas light display in Norfolk takes place in Blickling Hall, a beautiful National Trust property.

The winter illuminations start in the walled garden and takes you on an illuminated journey to the Parterre and Orangery gardens.

End your evening with a treat of mulled wine, hot spiced apples or gingerbread.

Book early because this is on of the most popular places to see Christmas lights in Norfolk.

Address: Blickling Estate, Aylsham, Norfolk, NR11 6NF.
Dates: 28th November to 18th December.
Tickets: £14.00 per adult. Child (5-17) – £10.00. Under 5 – FREE.

Norwich Tunnel of Light

Tunnel of Light

The Tunnel of Light has been on display in Norwich since 2016 and is so much more than just a tunnel of light as the name suggests.

It’s 57,000 LED lights create an ever changing Christmas scene and is one of Norwich’s best Christmas attractions.

While in Norwich, don’t miss the Norwich Castle light projections and the Christmas lights in Norwich City Centre (see Christmas light switch-on dates at the end of the post).

Address: Hay Hill (next to Saint Peter Mancroft).
Dates: 17th November to 5th January.
Tickets: No tickets required and it is free to visit.

North Norfolk Railway

The Norfolk Lights Express

Witness historic locomotives adorned with thousands of festive lights.

Address: Sheringham Station, North Norfolk Railway, Station Approach, Sheringham, Norfolk, NR26 8RA.
Dates: 11th November to 2nd January.
Tickets: From £20 per person. Under 3 – FREE.

Fairhaven Woodland & Water Garden

Christmas Light Walk

Enjoy the gardens after dark under the twinkling lights.

Address: Fairhaven Woodland and Water Garden, School Rd, South Walsham, Norwich, NR13 6DZ.
Dates: 26th November to 18th December.
Tickets: Asult – £4.00. Child (4 – 16) – £2.00. Under 4 – FREE.

Holkham Hall

Holkham Hall by Candlelight

While not quite a light trail, Holkham Hall by candlelight is truly magical. Enjoy the stunning state rooms and their Christmas decorations in the flickering candlelight.

Visit by self-led tour or guided tour.

Address: Holkham Hall, Holkham Hall, Wells-next-the-Sea, Norfolk, NR23 1AB.
Dates: Select dates in December from 4th to 29th December.
Tickets: Adult – £28.00, Child – £14.00.

Norwich Christmas light switch-on – Thursday 17th November.

Holt Christmas Lights switch-on – Friday 18th November at 5.30pm.

Burnham Market Christmas Market and lights – Saturday 19th November.

King’s Lynn Christmas lights – TBC.

Cromer Christmas lights – Saturday 3rd December.

Wells-next-the-Sea Christmas lights – Saturday 26th November.

Sheringham Christmas lights – Sunday 27th November.

Fakenham Christmas lights – Saturday 26th November.

Aylsham – Friday 25th November at 6pm.

Gorleston – Sunday 20th November at 5pm.
