Flashpacking Family on Instagram

We came pretty late to the Instagram party… February 2019 to be precise! But we’ve been working hard since then on curating our best travel (with kids!) photography from recent years, along with some info about each destination, and sharing it all on Instagram.

Am I right? How amazing would a safari version of Am I right?

How amazing would a safari version of White Lotus be?!

We thought viewing Victoria Falls from the Zimbabw We thought viewing Victoria Falls from the Zimbabwean side was amazing...

... until we saw the Zambian side!

We didn't think anything could top our first visit but getting to walk across Knife Edge Bridge was pretty epic.

Hold onto your accessories though as they can easily get swept into the torrent if you're not careful.

Thankfully our guide had seen it all before and was carefully walking behind me waiting to catch my sunglasses 😅

Tip: Visit in the morning for the best rainbows 🌈
If you're visiting in the dry season, the Zimbabwean side is actually better.

From Victoria Falls we drove 3 hours to Hwange Nat From Victoria Falls we drove 3 hours to Hwange National Park, the largest national park in Zimbabwe, and a further 2 hours to @africanbushcamps Somalisa Acacia.

We spent 3 nights here in their gorgeous family suite and throughout our stay we were looked after by an outstanding team. Big shout out to Tino who is working through the ranks hoping to become a guide some day. He took time out to spend time with the boys and teach them a local game called Tsoro. Obviously we are now scouring local curio markets for the perfect sized one to take home!

Hwange has a huge elephant population and one of the reasons we chose Somalisa apart from its great ethical standards is that they have an elephant watering hole right next to the dining deck. Having the elephants come this close to us was just magical.

The really interesting thing about this safari compared to others we have done, however, is the incredible knowledge of our guide, More.

We learned that the qualification process for guides in Zimbabwe is tougher than any other country in Africa and although we have learned a lot on previous safaris, this was by far the most educational one we've done.

And lastly, given it is a national park that is open to anyone, it was surprisingly quiet. We rarely saw another vehicle.

You can self drive in Hwange but you probably want to get a few self-drive safaris in less remote locations under your belt before tackling it!

Here's a small selection of photos from our one ni Here's a small selection of photos from our one night stay at @old_drift_lodge on the banks of the mighty Zambezi in the Zambezi National Park just outside of Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe.

It is the perfect location for river cruises (included in the room rate) and there are also game drives in the Zambezi National Park (also included).

If you haven't yet seen the new BBC World's Greatest Rivers series then we highly recommend it. The first episode is all about the Zambezi and is fascinating (and their footage is obviously way better than mine!)

If you want to find out more about this lodge or any of the places we're staying, we booked it all through @go2africa 🦁🦓🦒🐘

Sadly only 2 of us managed to do the Victoria Fall Sadly only 2 of us managed to do the Victoria Falls canopy zip lining due to illness but there were rave reviews about it from Ed and Ernie so George and I are hoping to be able to have a go when we're back in Vic Falls at the end of the trip.

The experience takes place in the trees next to the incredible gorge by Victoria Falls. There are about 10 zip lines and it takes about 2 hours.

There is also a gorge swing and flying fox for the more adventurous!

First day of our Zimbabwe/Zambia/Botswana trip and First day of our Zimbabwe/Zambia/Botswana trip and we start with one of the Natural Wonders of the World.. Victoria Falls (Mosi oa Tunya/The Smoke that Thunders)..

How can we possibly top this?

We're visiting at the end of the rainy season which means water levels are HIGH! Even the ponchos were no match for the level of drenching from the mist.

But it is an incredible experience.

We visited once before in November 2010 in the dry season and were able to walk out to some of the rocks out towards the centre of the river which is pretty terrifying to think about based on what we saw today 🤯

We did a guided tour which is one of the amazing activities offered by @the_elephant_camp where we're staying (the tour is included in your stay but entrance to the falls is $50 per person and $25 under 12).

Have you seen any natural wonders? We just have one more to go!
